Another three months have passed so quickly and we continue to grow and learn together as an organisation thanks to your support! In the financial year 2018 – 2019 we reached 288 people through our activity.  We won the Evening Times Health and Wellbeing Award, recruited new volunteers and reached out to the community through performances and partnerships.

We ran eight interactive performances for the elderly and people living with dementia in the Gorbals!

Our Strum for life group performed at a Suicide Awareness event at The Barn, at Bridging the Gap’s Community Dinner, and in Buchannan Galleries to raise money for the children’s Hospice.

We ran group music sessions for TASK Kids afterschool club and for The Barn Youth work charity. We are hoping to develop these relationships further in the future.

We ran singing sessions for young people as part of the New Gorbals Housing Association’s Easter Club.

We did some fundraising at our local Co Op!

And lots, lots, lots more.

People told us:

‘My memory is better and I feel less stressed.’

‘I think it really cheers you up. It’s so in the moment that you just do it for the sake of doing it.  And you practice in the house – I find it improves my mood.’

‘Sing for Life is my therapy. Best therapy there is.’

‘I am more confident and now lead the daily singing at Mass.’

‘I have become more alive.’

‘I feel more connected to others with a sense of purpose.’

‘I have made more friends.’

‘I always make sure to come down to see mum when Michelle is here doing the singing.  Mum loves it and I get to spend time with her doing something fun.’

We are now looking forward to a great spring/summer term ahead. We will be doing our final sharing event on the 26th June, 7pm at the Gorbals Parish Church, 1 Errol Gardens, G5 0RA. We hope you can join us!
