As we take a moment to catch our breath here at Givin’ it Laldie after a fun, exciting summer term, we feel very lucky to look back at all the moments we have shared together. As well as running eight weekly music sessions in the Gorbals we took part in community events, worked with partners to bring music into new spaces, recruited new board members and volunteers, looked at our monitoring and evaluation activity, wrote funding reports, updated policy documents and completed many more management tasks to continue to do our work well!
Some of our Summer Term highlights include:
Volunteering
Sing for Life joined Michelle in the two local dementia units she visits weekly and sang with the residents, staff and family members. You can listen to some of the special moments here: https://soundcloud.com/givin-it-laldie/sets/sing-for-life-visit-local
Songwriting
We held two song writing sessions for our partners TASK Childcare Services where twelve children came together to write, arrange, rehearse and perform an original song in only 5 hours. They performed for friends and family at the TASK Childcare Open Day.
Gorbals Fair
Our Sing for Life, Children’s Choir and Strum for Life groups came together to perform at the Gorbals fair to an attentive crowd.
Gorbals Children’s Choir
The Gorbals Children’s Choir performed at the St Francis and Blackfriars Primary schools’ final assemblies to show off all their hard work and to recruit new members for next year! You can watch them singing one of their favourite songs ‘Champion’ on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eX-REnr7V1w
The Summer Sessions
In partnership with the Citizens Theatre we put on a show for 100 people which brought music and drama together for a brilliant community evening.
The Laldie Sessions:
Michelle visited two sheltered housing accommodations in the Gorbals with her interactive show Step into My Parlour. Residents came together to sing, share housekeeping tips and reminisce together. This was in partnership with New Gorbals Housing Association and Loretto Care.
Our weekly classes start back on the 28th August and there are many exciting things to look forward to!
